Best Honeymoon Destinations in Southern Spain

Seville โ€“ The Heart of Andalusia

Seville with its Moorish minarets mirrored in the Guadalquivir river and the narrow, cobblestoned alleys of Barrio Santa Cruz, will certainly make your heart skip a beat.ย

Seville is full of architectural wonders like the Plaza de Espaรฑaโ€”a magnificent semi-circular square adorned by a series of tiled alcovesโ€”and Real Alcazar Palaceโ€”an epitome of Mudรฉjar architectureโ€”offer romantic settings for an unforgettable honeymoon experience.

The gastronomic scene in Seville is all about traditional tapas โ€“ taste all the Andalusian flavours and local dishes like salmorejo, jamรณn ibรฉrico, and gambas al ajillo, some of which are The Best Street Foods in Europe. Wine lovers will relish the chance to sample some of the regionโ€™s finest sherries, ranging from the delicate manzanilla to the robust Pedro Ximรฉnez.

Remember if youโ€™re planning your stay in Seville in the summer months, it gets incredibly hot, much hotter than the coastline. So a hotel with a pool is a must!ย

Granada โ€“ A City Steeped in History

In Granada, history comes alive with every step you take but nowhere quite as vividly as at Alhambra Palace. This Moorish palace complex consists of the Nasrid Palace, old Alcazaba fortress and stunning Generalife Gardens.

Albaicรญn is where you discover Granadaโ€™s Moorish soul, and my favorite place in the city.ย

This UNESCO World Heritage site enfolds within its white-washed walls and narrow winding streets stories from another time; each corner revealing quaint homes, vibrant bazaars selling trinkets, and enticing aromas of Moroccan tea shops.

The perfect place to get lost with your other half and discover the hidden wonders of this stunning Spanish city.

Similar to Seville, Granada is also located inland and very hot in the summer months, also pretty crowded. Keep that in mind when youโ€™re selecting your hotel in Granada โ€“ try to choose a bigger one that also offers pool, so you have somewhere cool to hide in the mid-day sun.

Marbella โ€“ Glamour and Sophistication

Time to head down to the coastline!

Despite its modern allure, Marbella has managed to preserve the feel of an old Andalusian village, thanks to the beautiful old town with its narrow cobblestone alleys lined with whitewashed Andalusian homes. An exploration wouldnโ€™t be complete without visiting Plaza de los Naranjos โ€“ an atmospheric square lined with quaint cafes shaded with blooming orange trees.

As night, Marbella morphs into a vibrant party city with exciting nightlife scene. The iconic Pangea Sky Bar or Nikki Beach with their world-class DJs spinning music are veritable playgrounds for night revelers.

Marbella is a great place to stay for those with more flexible budgets, with luxurious exclusive resorts, but also beautiful villas offering something truly unique for an unforgettable honeymoon in Spain.

Mรกlaga โ€“ Beach Bliss and Culture

An enticing blend of crystal-clear waters, golden beaches, rich history, and vibrant culture makes Mรกlaga an unmissable spot on the romantic journey through Southern Spain. It is also one of the Best Summer Destinations in Spain.

Mรกlagaโ€™s coastline is famous around Costa del Sol, with La Malagueta beach being the most famous one, with its well-maintained promenade and lively chiringuitos (beach bars) serving delectable fresh seafood, offers a quintessential Andalusian experience.ย

When in Mรกlaga, visiting the birthplace of Pablo Picasso is indispensable. The Picasso Museum houses more than 200 works by the legendary artist and provides insights into his life and creative journey. Unravel further into Mรกlagaโ€™s rich past with a visit to Alcazaba โ€“ a Moorish fortress that whispers tales from Spainโ€™s intriguing history while offering stunning views of the coastline.

ย

Cรกdiz โ€“ Ancient Beauty

Cรกdiz is at the very south of Spain, washed by the Atlantic Ocean, and said to be the oldest city in Europe.

The narrow streets within fortified walls date back to the times of Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and Moors. The architecture is a testament to this rich history โ€“ from Baroque churches to Roman theatre remains and watchtowers like Torre Tavira offering panoramic views over terracotta rooftops towards the vast azure sea.

If youโ€™re looking for sun-kissed sands and gentle ocean waves, there is no dearth of beaches in Cรกdiz. A favourite amongst locals and wanderers alike is La Caleta โ€” an urban beach nestled between two castles; San Sebastiรกn and Santa Catalina.ย

Further along the coast stretches Playa Victoria, a beautiful stretch of beach with soft sand and crystalline waters.ย

ย

Ronda โ€“ Dramatic Landscapes

Perched dramatically atop the El Tajo gorge, Ronda offers breathtaking views that are sure to captivate every newlywed couple. This picturesque white village is known for the famous Puente Nuevo, a stone bridge spanning the gorge linking Rondaโ€™s old and new town.

The chance to walk hand in hand across this architectural marvel, high above the gorge far beneath, is a sight to remember.ย

Rondaโ€™s cobblestoned streets are filled with quaint boutiques and charming cafes, but also beautiful historical places like the Mondragon Palace or the famous bullring of Ronda.

Whichever you prefer, Ronda is truly a little hidden gem among the Andalusian cities and will leave a lasting impression.
